You may not think about it, but in many ways the world of prefabs resembles building games. Here too, in fact, we have the basic structures: the monobloc prefabs, which just like the famous building bricks can come in different sizes and colors; and just as in the game with prefabs, too, by joining several modules it is possible to come up with endless constructions. This is the great opportunity that modular prefabs offer.
But what is a modular prefab?
The modularity of prefabrication refers back to the concept of module and is based on the use and repetition of basic patterns to compose and develop more complex structures. Exactly as with building bricks…
Individual basic components can be joined together (sometimes with the help of accessories or complementary metal materials) to create complex structures that fully meet the functional and space requirements of their users.
The result of this operation is the prefabricated so called modular. The structures can be placed side by side horizontally and vertically on one, two or three levels and can be used to accommodate any type of room, since depending on the needs they can be perfectly equipped and even adequately embellished.
What modular solutions can there be?
After more than four decades of experience, modular prefabs we have really seen and made all kinds and for all tastes. In fact, the solutions are numerous and can be adapted to any need for use but also for space.
The simplest ones have regular shapes with short and long sides of various sizes. The more complex ones do not have regular shapes but develop interrupted or broken geometries and can take on more original configurations, both for better aesthetics and to fit the characteristics of the place where they are to be placed.
What areas can modular prefabs be used in?
Typical solutions from the point of view of intended use are school halls, prefabricated modular offices, dormitories, locker rooms, gyms, canteens, and recreation areas.
The applications are virtually endless. One of the great merits of modular prefabs is their extreme versatility. Indeed, it is possible to combine two or more modules to create complex, customized solutions on one or more floors.
Internally, too, each modular prefabricated unit can be developed as desired, adding or removing walls, fixtures, and fittings, so as to obtain spaces that completely meet requirements.
With the technology of modular prefabs, modular prefab bathrooms can also be made in batteries, among others, with different possible configurations.
What standards must a modular prefab comply with?
All modular prefabricated units are capable of meeting the characteristics required by current standards, according to the specific requirements that vary essentially according to the intended use and place of installation.
The structural characteristics, for example, are different if the structure is intended for mountain areas (where it will have to bear a higher snow load) rather than on the seashore.
Different uses also entail different requirements: for example, in terms of surfaces (according to hygiene regulations, local regulations, and workplace safety regulations) or in terms of fire resistance (according to technical regulations applicable to the specific case) or insulation and installations (according to former Law 10, for the Containment of Energy Consumption, and workplace safety).
Just as different are also the characteristics for temporary or permanent prefabricated housing or office modules compared to warehouses or prefabricated modules for construction sites.
Therefore, having determined the specific requirement, a perfect match of modular prefabs to the applicable standard requirements can always be obtained.
