In 2012 following the notorious Civil Defense emergency that arose from the earthquake that struck Emilia Romagna, New House was awarded a public tender to rent prefabricated buildings to be used until the emergency ended.
The request from the Civil Defense technical structure worked to obtain modular prefabs to house the evacuees. The metal prefabs suggested by New House were those of the M1 Series, which are sturdy, manageable and have considerable flexibility of use.
In fact, the modular prefabs of the M1 Series constitute the “top of the line” category, abundantly equipped that can be developed in accordance with the needs of use. The tender was held with urgency being the winter period just around the corner. To deal with this need, insulated prefabs with walls containing polyurethane foam of sustained thickness were chosen.
The types of cottages developed were for 30, 45, 60, and 75 m², with single and double bedrooms, living room, cooking area, and bathrooms also provided for handicapped persons. The cottages were equipped with electrical systems, heat pump air conditioning, and sturdy window frames. The project developed about 3000 m² of floor area for a total of about 72 cottages formed by 227 modules. The result was very successful and the implementations were highly appreciated due to the functionality of the rooms and the speed of implementation.
